In my encounters with individuals, I often come across those with pain, depression and self-destructive mentalities. As one who possesses healing skills, my natural reaction to those who are hurting is to help, especially when I know with just a few moments of time and effort, I guide them to relieve their suffering. Naturally, it breaks my heart when these individuals reject my offer, either out of fear, ego, worry or simply ignorance. (I should note that I ensure cost is not a factor with these offers because that is sometimes a constraint that is not within the individual immediate control.)

Freedom is the Right to Choose

When it comes down to is, freedom, true freedom is the opportunity to choose negative outcomes for ourselves. As much as it may hurt to watch, a vital component of the healing arts is understanding that sometimes you must have enough respect for an individual to let him or her immerse themselves in the sludge of negative or evil emotional energy. It is unethical to heal those who do not want to be healed, even though it is possible to attempt from distance. Just because something is possible and you may have good intentions, does not mean it is appropriate.

Request Permission to Enter the Energy Field

Along the same lines, when we start a healing service for our clients, we want to be sure to verbally ask before entering their energy field, in the same way you would ask before you physically touch someone. We are all sentient energy beings. Invading someone’s energy field, even with good intention, can cause harm accidently. It doesn’t have to complicated or ackward, just gently ask “May I enter your energy field?”. Most just say of course or yes, but it plants a seed that you asked first. So much of our interactions and environmental experiences are forced on us, the act of asking represents a fresh paradigm they may not have considered. Some will ask why you ask permission. I simply say, It is unethical to enter someone’s field without their permission. However, in addition to this, it also begins the session from a place of respect and love, vital components for the successfulness of energy-based healing arts.

Resistance Must Be Respected

When providing a healing service, I sometimes find resistance to activating or clearing certain energy or chakras. When this happens, I verbally notify my client of what I am seeing. When brought to the conscious mind, the individual almost always says “yes”. However, the energy may or may not say yes at that moment. It’s a necessary conversation at that point to let the individual know that your soul or energy said “no,” and this means that I cannot ethically clear or activate that energy. I go on to share that I cannot tell them why that is, because I am not them. However, I do give possible options and questions to reflect on based on the location of the pushback.

The most common location for this pushback is typically the crown chakra point. In my experience, I see this pushback from individuals who have a firm, duality-based belief system. It’s as though they want to “see”, but they don’t want to “know”. They want the pain or discomfort to go away, but they don’t want to experience the cognitive and emotional dissonance of reflecting on their frame of reference. Back to freedom, they are allowed to stay asleep if they so choose.

Just Because We Can…

As individuals with healing skills, we have to be aware that just because we can do something doesn’t mean we should. In our exuberance to help, sometimes we forget there is a living soul on the other side of our energy. We must ensure that we do not make decisions for our clients by thinking we know what’s best for them. Instead, with humility and love, allow your clients to determine when they want to hold on to negative energy, because selecting for them will always do more harm than good.
